Return to what I like...

Tofu soup with straw mushrooms

This year, I want to try harder to make time for the things I enjoy doing...like cooking. Beading. Knitting. Reading. Gosh, what have I been doing the last several months?

On New Year's Eve, I started by making one of my favorite soups. This is soft tofu with straw mushrooms I got while shopping in Houston over Thanksgiving when my family was here. That was fun. Which reminds me that I have to find those pictures and post a couple. We trekked here and there on a quest for Viet. music, videos and FOOD! Yum. It was a real blast. Back to the soup. As you can see, there are also tomatoes, scallions and cilantro in there. The seasoning is a package of tamarind powder (also found while in Houston but you can find it in most Asian markets) that gives it a zippy, tangy kick. I LOVE this soup. Earlier this week it was very cold here and the soup with steamed rice made for a nice warmup. I was just in a soupy mood so the next day, I also made pho. Will post that later.

It's a warm 78F degrees today and gorgeous outside. I'm going to talk Mark into a walk now.
