Man Travel

It's been a crazy period of time at work -- lots and lots of travel but we just hired a contract coordinator for one of the teams I support so maybe within a month or two, the Training Team (me and Sonia) will be on a more regular routine.

So, I just got back from FL and I'm now Elite Access on the frequent flyer program. What does this mean? Well, if you read the info, it all sounds great --- you know, the usual benefits of flying around all over the place. In reality, I took advantage of my new status and stood in the very short line to check in (versus the longer "regular" line). In SA, this worked out fine. In Jacksonville, I barely moved for a while and it seemed as if my travel companions were going to beat me checking in despite my Elite status. Why? Because the 3 Elite men in front of me were, in my opinion, high maintenance. They had numerous requests for seat upgrades and priority stand-by bumps, declarations of their urgent need for this and that, heavy luggage that required special assistance. Ugh. All that to say this: men complain about women being high maintenance but I think they can sometimes top us. BTW, I checked in with little fanfare and under 7 minutes. :)

As for this picture...I noticed that the men I had to sit next to during all these trips had no trouble claiming the coveted middle armrest real estate. What's interesting is that the women I sat next to and talked with about this all agree that most other women do a very good job of sharing the space or we stay within our own space. My male neighbors were all over "our" armrest. I'm sorry but I just think that's rude. This particular person engaged in a constant subtle real estate war. Man, every time my elbow left that armrest, he took over. And when he fell asleep, his arm fell over to MY side so I had to nudge him to wake him and he removed his arm. Blah. Okay, I'll give it a rest.

Got home and it's great to be here, if only until Sunday. We head back to SC for the final week of training for this Kronos rollout group. At least I get to travel with a great group of friends and fellow trainers. After this, June should be a month of maybe one trip and that one would be for a real VACATION! I reach my one year anniversary with CMC and it's very exciting!

Garden news: It's doing fine although something has started digging up little holes in the garden AND ate the root of one of our green bean plants and ALL of our okra. Very odd. Oh and something bent one of the pretty sunflowers and then I noticed the bud had been eaten off. Hmm. Squirrel? We're on it. We've got to bust the critter in action. I'll keep you posted.

More news: I turned 39 on Tuesday!! And hopefully I'll get to open gifts tomorrow now that I'm home. :) Life's busy but going great. Mark and I are so happy to be doing new things closer to home.

I've experienced that "real estate war" myself. Its no fun and the middle seat is bad enough. Even with only 2 seats there ought to be a bit more give and take I would think. Less take on his part and more give to you! LOL

Hi Thien! And Happy Belated birthday! I can soooo relate to this blog entry, having spent a decade travelling transatlantic twice a month. Even now travelling with my husband, I still have to sit by a man who thinks he owns the armrest.
