This statement, uttered by my wonderfully crazy man, made me laugh quite unladylike-ly. There is always room in life for a good laugh. And Uncle Mark is pretty good at saying outrageous, unexpected things that just completely take me by surprise. By the way, it's a book and now I might just have to read it because that title is just cracking me up. We're still getting through the Bible, slowly but surely. It's very interesting and my brother had told me when I was young that I should read it and now I finally am. We're doing the Bible-in-a-year project. I'm still also reading Going Home. It's a thinker so I read it and have to put it down to digest it. i'm beginning to think it might take a year as well. Hee hee. Now I'm also going to start Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. It's the book we're reading for the One Seguin Reads program.
Okay, so we took a roadtrip to San Angelo in west Texas. It was interesting! I'm glad I went so I could see some of that area of Texas. It's the farthest west I have driven in TX. Here are my observations: It's pretty darn flat. People plant trees and bushes right around their property in an attempt to block the wind (brutal according to several people I've talked to). At a Mexican restaurant in San Angelo, you get chips along with salsa and sour cream (as opposed to no sour cream around here) and with dinner you do NOT get tortillas. The people we met were pretty nice on campus. It's a pretty campus. It's pretty well spread out for about 6100 students. Not the place for me but we are really glad that Melissa is so happy to go there. Oh, and it took just under 4 hours one way. Going through the hill country was very nice. That's my ASU report. Oh, and they do have a mall (like Rolling Oaks size) along with a Target, Best Buy, Sam's Walmart and LOTS of eating establishments. So, it may be out in the middle of nowhere but at least once you get there, you have food and shopping. :)
House projects are coming along though slower than we would like. The sidewalk and driveway are paved and our cars are off the road finally. Hooray! Not perfect but pretty nice so we are satisfied. Looks like they replaced the porch boards, feels pretty nice to walk on them but must still be painted. Again, not the precise job Uncle Mark would do but definitely better. It's amazing how much I've learned from Uncle Mark about home remodeling yet I still miss details that he points out to me! He's got a great eye. Anyway, next we will hopefully see some brick samples and then they can start on replacing some of the posts and then the skirt around the house. And they are to put in a water retaining curb of brick to lead the water from the bamboo in the back to and over the new driveway. Phew. Meanwhile, we are looking at things for the kitchen -- flooring, cablinet layout and design, dishwasher, sink and hardware. Lots of things to do but we are very excited about it all.
My knitting of 2006 Xmas gifts is coming along. I won't mention too much here since some of you reading this may be receiving said knitted gifts so....no posted pics until after CHRISTMAS!!! hee hee. Sarah and Sonia are both so impressive and have inspired me to branch out (but probably not until I get my Xmas knitting done). Sarah is working on a scarf with cables (oo la la) and Sonia is kitting a scarf in a basket weave. Both scarves are really looking great. When they finish more, I will post pics so you can see the patterns created. It's very cool. Speaking of knitting, Sarah has a major crafting injury!!!! I won't provide the gruesome details but I will say we should all be very careful when working with those scary rotary cutters! I'm going to suggest she get quilter's insurance. Poor Sarah. It looked painful.
