New Year's Cake

Have you ever had a Vietnamese rice cake? I love this treat. My mom use to make hundreds of these to sell at Lunar New Year but now she just makes a couple dozen for family and friends. There is rice (colored green), mung beans and a beef filling wrapped in banana leaves and then cooked for 14 hours or so on slow boil.

Then, I was taught to cut the cake using string. This really works much better b/c the rice is sticky. Trust me, I have used a knife and not only was the cutting difficult, cleaning the knife was also a pain.

Great shots and the cakes looks yummy. I've never had it but I love sticky rice and new flavors. Interesting lesson in cutting the cake.
