Olympics and the Confederation

Well, Clair, Catherine, Uncle Mark and I chatted as we watched the Winter Olympics' Opening ceremonies last night. It was definitely quite an extravaganza, with all the fireworks, people, dancers, Ferrari doing donuts, women with dancers under their dress skirts (!) and all that jazz. The last Italian female athlete who ran to light "the big" flame nearly bonked herself, and many other people, as she tried to run, hold the heavy torch with one hand, wave with the other and all the while smile as brilliantly as possible. It was a tense moment as the girls and I hoped that there would not be a disastrous heads-aflame incident. Overall, very entertaining.

I am about to start my own Knitting Olympics. http://www.yarnharlot.ca/blog/olympics2006.html
Sarah found this website where over 3000 knitters have registered for our own tribute to the Olympics. You're suppose to pick a challenging project. So, I have opted for my first hat on circulars. Size 7. Purple mercerized cotton from Hobby Lobby. I'll put an update on here and see how far I get by Sunday evening. Ha, wish me luck. Knitting on circular needles is okay. But I have yet to move it on to double-pointed-needles. YIKES. Stay tuned.

Okay, Uncle Mark is going to take a nap now so I might also. Although, I do one last "weaving" task on this scarf for Aunt Lan's scarf. I should focus and finish that. Finally. It's actually cold this weekend. 49 right now and then 27 (!) tonight. So she can finally wear a scarf without burning up! Me too! I have my soft black one on now. Oh, not coming yet so I'll write a bit more.

Oh, and the girls are at THE CONFEDERATION! I just love the way that sounds. It conjurs images of many alien nations' leaders, meeting and discussing great galactic topics. Like which world to invite into the elite Confederation. Which universe to explore. Which black hole is not really a black hole but actually a blue one. Think about that. Oh, and which vessel should they send to retrieve the evil Alien Head cat roaming my neighborhood. That cat is very suspicious if you ask me. I don't like him. I do my best to lecture Smokey about picking a good friend like Fresca, NOT Alien Head. :(

Well, I hope to hear good news from the Confederation participants. If they are successful, they go to the Jacksonville competition (they say it's a piano competition but I know that "Jacksonville" is code for Project Pick-Up Thienie Aliens and hopefully one particular Alien Head cat!

More later.

Hehehe, funny you were talking about heads a flame and such. Mi hermana and I were looking at an old Soprano's epi yesterday and Tony's chick of the day got her dressing gown sleeve on fire and then the rest of her caught fire...I bet Tony didn't stay with her long after. I usually watch the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, but I missed this one. This is about the only sport I like to actively watch.

The Confederation does sound funny, I wonder if that's what the Federation from Star Trek was called in that parallel universe they always kept running into.

Speaking of my god nieces (Congrats C&C!—I don't really know what you did, but I'm sure you did it with much Grace and Dignity.), K&H have them to thank for their peg board thingies. They've yet to make anything, because D won't let them make anything without supervision, but once they make something, I'll see if I can post a pic.
