Well, it has been a busy few days! The work gang and I went on our trip to Austin and had a blast. (Pictures are being uploaded as I type.) We went to Hill Country Weavers (http://www.hillcountryweavers.com/) which was awesome. It was a converted little house and we were amazed how much STUFF they got in there but in a cool way. You didn’t feel jam packed in there but they had tons of yarns, books, tools and other neat crafty stuff. The staff was very nice and helpful without scaring us…like the ladies at the Yarn Barn scare us.
After that, we checked out several cute little shops along Congress Avenue in Austin. I wish you were all here with us. We all decided we’d probably need to make another trip there. It was cool…there was so much to check out! Unfortunately it rained all morning and we got somewhat wet but we still had fun. For lunch we went to Uncle Mark’s FAVORITE pizza place – Conan’s. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and so did I!
Our celebrity near-sighting was of Kinky Friedman (http://www.kinkyfriedman.com/) at the Continental Club in Austin. I thought he was probably in there because of the long line outside. Plus they had the Kinky for Governor Petition going on outside. It ws cool. My other celebrity sighting this past weekend was Flozel Adams (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/12175) and Lawrence Sampleton (http://www.databasefootball.com/players/playerpage.htm?ilkid=SAMPLLAW01). So, Flozel plays for the Cowboys and Lawrence played for the Eagles. It was neat. They were at church – Lawrence’s mother attends and his brother was preaching that day. Flozel is their cousin. They are very, very, very big men. Very tall. Not fat but just BIG. And very nice. That’s it for celebrity sightings.
Okay, so the Word Power Challenge deal was a big group of kids in a vocabulary contest. You can read more at http://www.rd.com/nwpc/about.jhtml. It was interesting and neat event but not really organized so it was frustrating at first. It amazes me how rude parents can be and then they don't know how to teach their children any social skills whatsoever. Very sad! And maddening. We helped with registration and then Sarah was Quiz Master and I was her time- and scorekeeper. We had 20 kids in our room and one made it to the Championship Round. He was very cute. Eight kids made it to the final round but our little Thomas didn’t win it in the end. Too bad. The real NATIONAL finals are in Orlando in April I believe. That's what I was told.
Last night Bac Tu hooked us up with Cirque de Soleil Delirium tickets! http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSoleil/en/default.htm It was really neat. I have always liked them and have wanted to go to a show. I enjoyed the music, stage, projected images and lighting in particular. It is amazing how so many things go on at one time. I can’t imagine what it’s like to direct all of that. Very cool. Thanks Lan!
Tonight, Spurs play Golden State. Hopefully it will be an easy game but you never know with our boys. Sometimes the easiest teams give us the most trouble. I am sad that State didn’t make it past Texas but then again, I didn’t select them to advance past Texas in my tourney picks. Oh well. The good news is, UNC bombed before we did! Awesome!
